St.-Karl-Ibergeregg-Rundweg
Illgau, St. Karl–Ibergeregg–Grossenboden–Illgau, St. Karl
A winter hike in the idyllic and peaceful mountains of Central Switzerland, far from the bustle of the slopes. Besides the spiritual site of St. Karl, the route offers many other opportunities to draw strength from nature and unwind.
High above the picturesque little village of Illgau, the circular hike starts by the St. Karl mountain station. The route runs through small, idyllic coniferous woodlands and past craggy rock formations and Alpine huts. With their delightful and placid landscape, the two high plateaus of St. Karl and Oberberg exude an infectious feeling of peace. The trail continues via Eseltritt towards Ibergeregg with a constant view of the Schwyz valley basin and the Stoos-Muotatal region.
After such a quiet journey, the lively and informal Ibergeregg seems loud. Hikers soon forget the strenuous climb as they admire the wonderful mountains of Central Switzerland and the panoramic view. The route back downhill past Grossenboden brings them back to quieter surroundings, where they may glimpse a few skiers. From here, a tranquil walk via Unter Altberg leads to the starting point at St. Karl.
