Rotenboden-Riffelberg-Weg
Zermatt, Rotenboden–Zermatt, Riffelberg
A typical winter panoramic view of the Zermatt region, guaranteed. This winter hiking trail starts in Rotenboden, runs along the Riffelhorn mountain and leads to a spectacular view of the sun-kissed Gornergrat mountain.
This snowy fairy tale starts in Rotenboden. The winter hiking trail heads off to the left. The loop towards the Riffelhorn marks the starting point of a great adventure. At certain times of the day during winter, the Riffelhorn casts its cold, blue-tinted shadow over the landscape. It only takes a moment to pass from the heat of the sun to the inhospitable chill of the shadow.
But the sun is soon blazing again and lights up the rest of the path, which leads to a small hillock. It’s a remarkable and surprising experience. The view of the Matterhorn is exceptional and there is always a variety of cloud patterns in the winter sky.
The path then descends towards the Riffelberg. If you’re bringing your kids on the route, you'll find it easy to pull them along behind you on a sledge.
