Chemin des Taillères
La Brévine–La Brévine
Don’t be afraid of the cold, entering the «Swiss Siberia» does not mean you will automatically be transformed into a block of ice, like the water of the Lac des Taillères, whose shorelines this route is following.
The Taillères winter hike takes you from La Brévine to Bémont at the heart of «Swiss Siberia». The route is frequently parallel to the cross-country skiing trail, another very popular activity in the region. After two kilometres, you will already find yourself at the eastern end of the Lac des Taillères. When fully frozen, the lake is a paradise for skaters. Continuing your hike, you will admire the typical farms of the region. A chance to thaw out and taste some regional products.
On returning, the route climbs slightly to pass by «Les Cuches». Whereas a light mist may linger in the valley bottom, some twenty metres higher you will find the temperature quite agreeable. On returning to the village, cast a glance at the thermometer in the Square. The record is - 41°! Although in many places locals worship the sun and the return of spring, at La Brévine, you can participate in the «Cold Weather Festival» - but remember to wear stout shoes and warm clothing.
