Realp–Realp
The route is closed in winter 2020/21 - The James Bond film, Goldfinger, shot in 1964, made this area a part of film history because of all the narrow curves on the Furka Pass road. And this is the very road on which this winter hiking trail runs from Realp to Tiefenbach.
The Furka is very quiet in winter. If you are not familiar with the pass road when there is no snow, you’d find it hard to imagine how this winter hiking trail could be so busy with cars and motorbikes in the summer. As this area enjoys its winter hibernation you won’t even hear the sound of the Furka Steam Railway.
The winter hiking trail from Realp to Tiefenbach provides the perfect setting in which to be fully immersed into this winter landscape. You scale the pass, bend after bend, as you progress. In 1964, a scene for the James Bond film, Goldfinger, was filmed on this route. For Oscar winner Sean Connery, the focus was on a sweeping curve in the road, which hence is called the James Bond Goldfinger Curve. The scenes in Switzerland are now regarded as classic in the Bond story.
Having arrived in Tiefenbach, you will be rewarded with a breathtaking view of the peaks in the Valais and Bernese Alps, some of which are over 4,000 metres high. You return to Realp along the same route, either slowly on foot or at speed on a rental toboggan.
