Morteratsch-Winterwanderweg
Pontresina, Morteratsch–Pontresina, Morteratsch
A short trail through thousands of years of the Earth’s history. The Morteratsch Glacier Trail takes hikers along an easy path directly to the glacier tongue of the third longest glacier in the eastern Alps. An educational trail provides information on this receding glacier.
The starting point is at the railway station and Hotel Morteratsch. It takes around fifty minutes along a good dirt track to reach the milky glacial lake and the huge glacial tongue, with the stunning Bernina Range always in sight.
16 stops along the Glacier Trail provide information on how the glacier is slowly receding and the mysterious life that exists in the glacier foreland.
A children's booklet entitled Sabis grosser Traum (Sabi’s Big Dream) is available for children aged five to twelve so they can follow the story of the children’s book once they are in this unique glacier scenery. The paper chase gives children an opportunity to play outdoors with natural elements, in nature itself.
