A lovely walk in the countryside with the delightful surprise of spotting deer in the clearing of the forest. Stop off at the “snow village” at the Tobogganing Park to visit the magical land of igloos.
The sun-drenched holiday resort of Leysin basks on the southern flank of the Tour d'Aï, on a broad terrace above Aigle. There are splendid views from here of the Rhone Plain, Mont Blanc, the Dents du Midi and Les Diablerets. As well as the skiing area – especially popular with families – there are many winter hiking trails here to help you explore the district. This is an ideal walk for families and nature enthusiasts.
Starting from the skating rink sports centre, head in the direction of the forest of Le Suchet. You’ll pass by the Tobogganing Park and the snow village. The first surprise as you enter the forest, that will delight both adults and children, is the deer park. Make sure you stop and have a look. Then follow the trail through a forest of exceptional trees; a place of peace and intrinsic beauty where you can recharge your batteries. Perhaps you’ll chance upon a mischievous elf, a curious wolf or a timid owl.
On returning to the sports centre, you can add an extra loop. The trail winds its way across the sunlit plain above the cantonal highway, past fields and farmsteads. You make a turn below the hamlet of Crettaz, with its pretty chalets. To conclude your hike, why not visit the Scandinavian-inspired igloos in the Snow Village next to the destination?
