Bodma-Winterwanderweg

On this short winter hike, you can discover tracks that animals leave in the snow and learn about the native species. And as an incidental bonus, you can enjoy snow-clad forests and the superb view from Bodma hamlet.
The Bodma winter hiking trail is a fairly short tour that is never excessively steep. It takes you through forests to the picturesque hamlet of Bodma. This winter hiking trail is laid out as a themed route, devoted to the tracks left by wild animals and their behaviour. Information panels by the wayside help hikers to learn more about the native animal world. This makes the tour ideal for families with children.

Start out near the bus terminal in Visperterminen. From here, you climb gently along the road at first and then along a path across the fields until the edge of the forest. At this point, the hiking trail plunges into the winter landscape of the forest. After crossing the Riedbach stream, the last stretch of this wide trail climbs up to Bodma, the tour's highest point. The forest opens up here to reveal this beautifully located hamlet high above the Rhone Valley, with views of the mountains opposite. There are huts here that invite you to linger awhile in the sun.

Continue downhill via the settlement of Beeschi-Bodma, back into the forest and across the Riedbach. As the trail continues to descend gently, it meets the outbound route again after a few hundred meters. From here, follow the same path through the forest until it opens up once more to reveal the village of Visperterminen. From the edge of the forest, return to the tour's starting point near the bus terminal. If you still have time, explore the well-preserved centre of Visperterminen village. You'll wander through narrow lanes lined with traditional Valais houses built of timber bronzed by the sun.
