Tärbiner Winterwanderweg

When the snow lies deep around Visperterminen, this winter hike in the surroundings of the Heida wine village is a pleasure. Always in view: the 4,000-meter peaks of the Matter Valley and the Mischabel group.
The tour begins at the bus terminal in the centre of Visperterminen village, known to locals as "Tärbinu". The wide trail climbs gently towards the south. Forest is followed by sunlit mountain slopes as you pass old stables and chalets. Always in view: the 4,000-meter peaks of the Matter Valley and the Mischabel group.

The path takes you as far as the hamlet of Oberbrunnu – an inviting spot to rest awhile and let the sun warm your bones. It's worth stopping here just to admire the quaint Valais barns. From Brunnu, you continue northwards to the Gärsteru forest. You share the route with sledgers until you reach the edge of the forest. Then the tour route turns to the left and plunges into the dense forest, with only occasional clearings – where it passes the picturesque forest chapel, for example, or when it leads below the chair lift. From here, there is just a gentle climb towards Muttji, where you cross the Riedbach stream.

As you descend gently to the hamlet of Bodma, a panoramic vista of the Rhone Valley and the mountains opposite opens up. The trail here is broad and not very steep as you head downhill to Riedhof hamlet and from there, back to the starting point in Visperterminen village. If you still have time, visit the village centre just near the bus terminal, and enjoy the local white wine speciality – "Heida" – in one of the inns.
