The route is closed in winter 2022/23.
Walk along Europe's highest winter hiking trail (3,111-3,020 m.a.s.l.): the route leads from the Hockenhorn ridge across Milibach glacier to a viewing pulpit. On arriving, you are greeted by a fabulous view of 40 peaks of 4,000 meters or more including the Bietschhorn and the Matterhorn.

High, higher, Hockenhorn: this panorama trail starts at 3,111 m.a.s.l., near the mountain station of the Hockenhorn gondola lift. That makes it Europe's highest winter hiking trail! Apart from the altitude, which leaves you breathless rather more quickly than usual, this hiking trail is easy to walk. The scenery, with no less than 40 peaks above 4,000 meters, is simply unique – so it's worth your while to wait for a fine sunny day.
The high-altitude panoramic trail starts behind the mountain station of the glacier cableway. There is a viewing pulpit here with information panels describing the panorama. On one side, the Blüemlisalp massif welcomes you; on the other side, you can admire the majestic Bietschhorn and countless Valais peaks including the Matterhorn. Parallel with the ski run and with a direct view of the Hockenhorn (3,292 m.a.s.l.), a wide rolled track takes you comfortably down across Milibach Glacier to the second viewing platform. On the small viewing area above the chasm, there are two more panoramic information panels with the names of the peaks that surround you.
To hike back along the same section, you need to plan a maximum walking time of 45 minutes. On returning to the mountain station, the gondola lift and then the three-seater chair lift will carry you back to Stafel. From here, you can walk down to the Lauchernalp area or take the six-seater chair lift to the mountain station.
