Rundweg Aeschi–Aeschiried
Aeschi–Aeschi
This winter hiking trail takes you to the most scenic lookout points around Aeschi. Several benches invite you to linger and admire the views. The ever-changing views of the Frutigtal valley, Mount Niesen, Lake Thun and the peaks above the fog line are without equal.
This winter hiking trail along the natural sun terrace above Lake Thun runs mainly along the so-called «Bänkli» circular trail, particularly popular in summer. Starting in Aeschi, the trail leads briefly in the direction of Mülenen before turning into the Suldhaltenstrasse. Passing old farmhouses with views of the Frutigtal valley, the snow-covered Niesen, Dreispitz, Wetterlatte peaks captivate the hiker. After an ascent, the trail leads past alpacas and a llama farm until it finally reaches the Aeschiried high plateau. There are various opportunities to take a break here, for instance at the ski bar or the Panorama.
The trail continues past Aeschiried school in a steady descent. In clear weather, you can take in magnificent views of Lake Thun and on the opposite shore Mount Niederhorn, Sichle and the Sigriswilergrat ridge. The winter hiker can often look down upon a thick blanket of fog smothering the valley floor. After reaching the Ebenengässli, you can choose to return to Aeschi either on the trail across the meadow or via the Zwygartenstrasse. There are several places to sit and take a break along this trail. The benches are not always cleared of snow, but still offer the opportunity for a short breather to admire the stunning views.
