Romantic winter hiking trail high above Lake Thun, leading past the cantonal recuperation clinic and through glittering winter forests. Enjoy expansive views of the Bernese Alps above the fog line.
The winter hiking trail leads from the the info point of Heiligenschwendi and the ski lift on the main road towards Goldiwil. Above a magnificently situated farm, you will reach the enchanting, snow-covered forest. The trail leads in a southerly direction behind the Winterberg and above the monument commemorating the foundation of the Bernese recuperation clinic at Heiligenschwendi to Schluechtegg. From there, you will soon reach Wolfsgrueben above Schwändi-Allmit. The beautiful vista from here is delineated by the Stockhorn chain to the west.
The trail leads below the Schwändibluemere in the direction of Hinterport to the scenic Tschingelallmi. Below here, the circular trails from Schwanden and Ringoldswil feed into this circular route. Ascending the larch-dotted hill to the ‘Niesenbänkli’ bench lookout rewards you with stunning views. Pick out the striking, pyramid-shaped Mount Niesen in its wintry splendour opposite, Mount Blümlisalp in the Kandertal valley, the Alpine foothills and the iconic Bernese peak trio Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. Below you, the village of Ringoldswil nestles into the mountainside, below it Lake Thun.
The return journey takes you to back to the circular trail. The hike through the Brüggliwald forest will lead you to the road from Heiligenschwendi to Ringoldswil. Follow it through the wintry forest in the direction of the recuperation clinic to reach the next bus stop.
