Senda Alp Trida–Alp Bella
Samnaun, Alp Trida–Alp Bella–Samnaun, Alp Trida
From desolate Alp Trida to beautiful Alp Bella; this winter hiking route, with its amazing views, leads into the midst of the Samnaun/Ischgl Silvretta Arena. Hikers will be rewarded with wonderful views of Piz Mundin, Muttler and the Ötztaler Alps.
Arriving at Alp Trida by chairlift an impressive panorama greets the observer, with views of the peaks of three countries: Switzerland, Austria and Italy. The route begins just a few metres down the ski piste below the Skihaus Alp Trida. The landscape here is dominated by a mass of boulders, the result of a rockfall from the Bürkelkopf, which explains the name of this alp (Trida is Romansh for desolate).
From behind the restaurant the route climbs gently toward the East to Alp Bella, the «beautiful» alp (2,380 m a.s.l.). From here visitors can enjoy a wonderful view of Piz Mundin, Muttler and the Ötztaler Alp. The summer pasture here is one of the highest in Europe. From the alp milk is sent down a pipeline to Samnaun, where it is made into cheese. In winter culinary specialities tempt skiers and hikers to stay awhile.
From Alp Bella one can see a round rock named locally as «bei der Kirche», an impressive geological witness of the folding of the Alps. The hike there and back takes about two hours.
