Muntatsch-Segnas-Weg

A sunny winter walk with views of Disentis, going across open fields and through the little village of Segnas with its lovingly preserved Walser houses.
The hike begins at the valley station of the cable car. Passing behind the Catrina Resort, it takes you into the Val Clavaniev and in a wide curve up to the Muntatsch viewpoint. A bench with views of the Medel glacier is a tempting place to stop for a while.

In Acletta it's worth making a short diversion to visit the baroque church of Maria Immaculata. This was built in 1670 and is famous for its altarpiece by the famous artist Francesco Nuvolone, who created it in 1655 in Milan. After the last houses in the village, you continue westwards across an open field. Going past Peisel and then over the Segnas stream, you come to the village of Segnas. The road is lined with lovingly maintained Walser houses, weathered by the sun. These buildings, which are several hundred years old, were preserved because the village was spared from being burnt down when the French attacked in 1799.

The return route takes you on quiet lanes and residential roads via Buretsch and Cuoz back to the car-park for the cable car.
