This route from Furi down to Zermatt village offers views of the region's stunning scenery, always accompanied by the impressive Matterhorn. The untouched landscape surrounded by a magnificent mountain world is a true feast for the eyes.
The aerial gondola takes you to Furi top station where you start in the direction of Zermatt. The Matterhorn stands guard over it's region, majestic and imposing, drawing your gaze as if by magic. The route leads through a quiet and romantic landscape with a wealth of Alpine flora and rugged rock formations. The valley shimmers in an elegant dark green.
The enchanting larch forest lets you catch glimpses of sunlight and huge mountains between i'ts trees. Quiet spots, benches and superb vantage points with stunning views of the Valais mountains invite you to take a break. Around 90 per cent of the region is under a conservation order and of national and international importance.
The closer you get to your destination, the more frequently you see traditional chalets along the path. The restaurants along the route are ideal for a relaxing break. In general, this is a quiet route with little traffic, one that you can enjoy with an easy mind. This is also thanks to the fact that Zermatt itself is car free.

Barrier-free travel / public transport
From the Zermatt support railway station, you reach the bottom station of the aerial cableway along a 1.4km path (the last 1.4km of the route / not included in route calculations). Here you board the aerial gondola to the Furi top station. No reservation is required for the 8-seat cable cars and the staff will be pleased to assist you.
Wheelchair-suitable parking spaces
The whole of Zermatt is car free and so cannot be reached by car, however there are parking garages and public car parks in Täsch. The Parkhaus Matterhorn Terminal has eight parking spaces for wheelchair users. You board the shuttle train to Zermatt at the Täsch support railway station, which is directly next to the Parkhaus Matterhorn Terminal.

Eurokey WC top station Furi
The Furi top station has a Eurokey toilet. WC info: door width 90cm; movement area (DxB) 100x230cm; seat height 47cm; hand grips, left fixed, right moveable; access right; no mirror; washbasin underside clearance 70cm.
km0 - km3.0
The entire first part of the route is surfaced. At the Furi top station is a 10m downhill section with an 18% gradient. From here, almost all the route to the beginning of the built-up area has an 8% downhill gradient. The only exception is at km0.3 where there is a 30m uphill section with a 6% gradient.
km3.0 - km5.0
The second part of the route is also surfaced. From km3.0 to km3.5 is a 6% downhill gradient followed by a 300m section with an 8% downhill gradient. At km3.8 the route again leads down a 6% gradient to km4.3, followed by a short downhill section with a 6% gradient. There are no appreciable ascents or descents on the last 500m to Zermatt railway station.
Wheelchair-accessible public WC Kirchplatz
Passing the church at km4.4, you come to a branch-off to the left that after 100 m leads to the public toilet on Kirchplatz. The WC is accessed via a 20m ramp with a 12% gradient. The ladies toilet has a wheelchair-accessible WC.
