Grenzpfad Napfbergland

Grenzpfad Napfbergland

Long-distance hike along the Bern-Luzern border, in six stages through Emmental and Entlebuch, up the Brienzer Rothorn and on to the Brünigpass. En route: many activities and information on history, culture and landscape of the border region.
The Grenzpfad Napfbergland is a long-distance hike between Emmental and Entlebuch. A route along the cantonal border between Bern and Luzern, where hostile skirmishes were still taking place 150 years ago. The Grenzpfad likes to cross borders on its way from the baroque buildings of the former St. Urban Monastery along rugged, romantic paths up to the Brünigpass. The route runs through the gently rolling Emmental landscape, through the Entlebuch biosphere reserve and has no shortage of summits: Napf, Wachthubel, Marbachegg and the Brienzer Rothorn to name but a few.

On the way: traditional landscapes, historic and cultural sightseeing attractions, illustrated panels providing information on culture, history and scenery of the border region. Opened in 1998, the trail can be covered in stages over five to six days. Various starting points are possible for those with little time. The IG Grenzpfad Napfbergland brochure promises those with more time another «13 Tops on the Grenzpfad». The many activities make it possible to extend the Grenzpfad into eight or more one-day stages. Pan for gold in the Napf, hill-trek with llamas or visit a show dairy to marvel at how the famous Emmental cheese is produced.
