Parcours de Bellelay

Starting from Bellelay in the region of the famous Tête de Moine AOC cheese, this snow-shoe excursion will take you to Sur Montbautier in the uplands of the Montagne du Droit before passing through the forest of the same name on the way back to your starting point.
Starting from the Domaine de Bellelay, which is also the site of the three hundred year old Bellelay Abbey and the Maison de la Tête de Moine, this circular walk sets off towards the south. The first few hundred metres on the flat, which act as a warm-up, reward the walker with a spectacular view over the grassland and the vast Bellelay plain.

The Montbautier forest is reached after passing through a small wood. The trail turns to the left on reaching the forest and, after a short distance the trail continues towards the south-west up a steep, forested slope to the 1,089 m marker on leaving the forest. The route continues across gently sloping grassland up to the imposing Sur Montbautier farm which is bypassed on the southern side.

In a gorgeous landscape dotted with majestic snow-covered pines the path drops down the southern slope of the Montagne de Montbautier through meadows and forest to arrive at la Rouge Eau. From here the two routes arrive back at Bellelay through an extensive open space and in glorious surroundings.
