Schneeschuhtrail Mattwald

Schneeschuhtrail Mattwald

Silence, snowy fields and a view of the Tödi – as beautiful as it gets. This trail is ideal for all those who prefer to take things a bit easier on a snowshoe hike and spend more time admiring nature and the mountain panorama.
The Mattwald snowshoe trail runs from Grotzenbüel on a circular two-kilometre hike towards Mattwald and back to Grotzenbüel. It starts right next to the mountain station above Braunwald, which can be easily reached on the Hüttenberg – Grotzenbüel gondola. Built in 1990, this group orbital railway was the first of its kind in Switzerland.

The trail is easy and quite flat, making it particularly suitable for beginners, families and the elderly. Attractions along the way include wide fields, snow-covered fir trees and a magnificent mountain panorama of the Gemsfairenstock (2,972 m above sea level), Ortstock (2,717 m) and of course, the Tödi (3614 m). The highest mountain in Glarus forms the border with the canton of Graubünden, whose glaciated peaks dominate the southward view.

The Mattwald snowshoe trail is located in the heart of the Braunwald skiing area and is easy to reach. But nevertheless: It promises plenty of peace and quiet – a perfect place to enjoy a relaxing time!
