Bonistock Trail
Melchsee-Frutt–Melchsee-Frutt
The train from Melchsee-Frutt to Bonistock is full of wonders. Firstly there is the view across to Mount Titlis and the Obwalden peaks, then the idyllic magic of two lakes – Tannensee and Melchsee.
From the Melchsee-Frutt mountain station, the trail runs in an easterly direction alongside the ski piste up to the Bonistock mountain restaurant. The ascent runs close to the ridge above the climbing park. The panorama is impressive to both north and south: depending on the weather you can see from Mount Titlis across to the Wendenstock peaks, Bustenhorn across the Trift glacier, Glogghuis and as far as Mount Pilatus. The circle is closed with the striking tip of Nünalphorn and Huetstock.
From the Boni mountain station there is a crossing over the steep slope towards the east to Chringenpass. The descent from Chringen is a little awkward (snow drifts) but generally perfectly manageable.
The return to the south of the Boni cliffs initially leads to Tannensee, which is situated in a virtually flat upland valley, almost on the saddle to Gental valley. You arrive back at the finish in Frutt village passing Melchsee – the lake that gives its name to this small Obwalden winter sports resort.
