Lombachalp Trail

Through one of Switzerland’s largest moorland areas and an unspoilt landscape, surrounded by the Hohgant and Augstmatthorn peaks. In the distance the summits of Mount Niesen and the famous Bernese Oberland peak trio Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau.
Mystical moorlands, ancient spruce and pine forests, gentle streams and bizarre karst formations characterize the landscape around Lombachalp. It belongs to one of the largest and most impressive Swiss moor landscapes and lies nestled between the Hohgant and Augstmatthorn peaks behind the farming village of Habkern.

The route starts at the restaurant Jägerstübli Lombachalp and leads from here in a north-north-westerly direction to Winterröscht, 200 metres higher up. After this half-hour ascent, we are already at the highest point of the tour. From here you can enjoy a wonderful view of the surrounding moorland, the Bernese alps and, to the east, the Lucerne backlands.

The route continues past the alpine huts of Bohl-Läger and down to Färrichegg, where you come upon the cross-country ski trail. The snowshoe trail now winds parallel to the cross-country ski trail past protected areas of high moorland. The tour ends again at Lombachalp/Rotenschwand. A longer and also signposted variant leads via Schwarzbach-Widegg-Bolberg back to Lägerstutz.
