Aeschiried Trail
Aeschiried–Aeschiried
This easy snowshoe trail is suitable for everyone. The short circular route with gentle inclines leads over the high plateau at Aeschiried and reveals views of Lake Thun and the Niederhorn, Niesen and Stockhorn peaks.
The rather easy route towards Windegg is an ideal introduction to snowshoe hiking and starts at the Aeschiried Schulhaus post bus terminus. From there, the trail descends a small hill and boasts views of the Niederhorn, Sigriswilergrat ridge, Sichle and the opposite shore of Lake Thun on a clear day. This area is often situated above the fog line, affording sweeping views above the blanket of fog that often smothers the wintry landscape.
Following the descent, the route turns and leads the snowshoe hiker directly towards the magnificent pyramid-shaped Mount Niesen. The trail passes the Chemihütte Restaurant, providing the opportunity to take a short breather. It continues across an open, level field, past a small chapel and back to the starting point.
