Schlittelbahn Splügen
Splügen, Blachtaboda–Splügen, Talstation
A comfortable gondola ride takes you to the start near the midway station. At this lofty height, let your gaze wander over the Rheinwald massif and Splügen village – and then, off we go: the toboggan track twists and turns through the forest at first, and then along the edge of the ski run back to the valley station.
Splügen, in the Beverin Nature Park, is one of the oldest and most typical pass villages in Graubünden. The village's appearance has been influenced by its location at the foot of the Splügen and San Bernardino passes: proud Italianate palazzi rub shoulders with sun-bronzed Walser houses in the historic village centre. This was why the Swiss Heritage Society awarded the Wakker Prize to Splügen in 1995; and in 2019, it joined the "Most Beautiful Villages of Switzerland" association.
To the south of the village, the Splügen-Tambo winter sports area is a paradise for ski enthusiasts and sun worshippers – and, of course, for tobogganers. The Splügen toboggan run is highly suitable for families. Your descent on skids begins at the Blachtaboda midway station. The gondola ride to the station is already an experience, with stunning views of Splügen, the Rheinwald and the surrounding mountain peaks. On reaching the station, tobogganers will encounter skiers who are speeding down towards the valley from the Tanatz heights.
Astride your toboggan, you will cross the ski run and then plunge straight into the forest. The run twists and turns below the cable-car line, first through a forest of fir trees and then across open terrain down to the valley station. On the last section, you ride next to the ski run. Food and drink are available in the restaurant near the valley station, in the skiing area or in the village.
