Aussichtspunkt–Samnaun, Dorf
A descent on the Samnaun toboggan run has to be earned: first one has to hike from Samnaun Dorf via Motta Saltuorn to the viewpoint above Val Motnaida, before coming back down the same way on a togoggan.
Situated in the border triangle Switzerland, Austria and Italy, Samnaun is characterized by its neighbouring cultures. Together with Ischgl, Tirol, in winter Samnaun operates the largest ski arena in the Eastern Alps. 238 kilometres of pistes offer visitors winter sports enjoyment. Toboggan riders can also have fun – but not that easily.
The speedy descent on the Samnaun toboggan trail has first of all to be earned:
Namely, on foot from Samnaun Dorf through the Inner Wald mixed forest, passing the Motta Saltuorn forest hut along the way. Before setting off on the run downhill it’s worth making a stop at the viewpoint above Val Motnaida: from here one looks across Samnaun Dorf to Piz Ot, Piz Rots and towards the Zeblasjoch. The leisurely ascent takes about an hour.
The downhill ride on the toboggan goes back down the same way, and is also used by hikers. Although the path through the woods is not very steep it is possible to get up quite a speed over some stretches. Since the path is on a north-facing slope snow conditions are usually excellent right up to April and there are very rarely icy patches.
