Romanshorn
Romanshorn highlights are the lovely location on the shores of the Bodensee with lakeside promenade, intact hinterland and good Intercity connections, regional Thurbo railway, Bodensee cruises and ferry to Germany.
Romanshorn is first and foremost a harbour town: this is where the ferry leaves Swiss shores in the direction of Friedrichshafen in Germany. This is also the large harbour where amateur skippers keep their yachts and motorboats. Romanshorn also has a beautiful hinterland landscape with nearby forests.
The harbour town with around 11500 inhabitants was for centuries an important outpost of the St. Gallen Monastery. The village grew rapidly with the building of the harbour and the arrival of the railway from Zurich in1855,
The lakeside promenade is perfect for pleasant strolls. Sights worth seeing are the old church and a small museum near the harbour devoted to local history. The lovely lake lido with a 100m-long slide and Jacuzzi etc. is a magnet during the summer months. Friedrichshafen is quickly reached by ferry, for example to visit the Zeppelin Museum. The «White Fleet» of the Bodensee takes guests to destinations all around the lake or tempts them to a round cruise. Special theme and culinary cruises are regular events, including full moon, fairytale and fondue cruises etc.
The route along the lake shore towards Kreuzlingen is a much-used skating section, with many convenient public transport connections. The flat shoreline and the gently rolling hinterland is also a firm favourite with hikers and bikers.
