Erlen Skate
Basel (Bad. Bhf.)–Basel (Bad. Bhf.)
The «Erlen Skate» circuit takes you from Badischer Bahnhof in Basel past the Eglisee water park and the Pumpwerk skater park to the beautiful Lange Erlen recreational area which continues on to the German city of Weil am Rhein.
The path leads from Badischer Bahnhof in Basel to Surinam. But never fear: you do not have to travel to the Atlantic North coast of South America, but rather comfortably roll along the Basel district by the same name «Im Surinam». You can plan a refreshing stop at the Eglisee water park. It was established in 1911 and is Basel's oldest bath. Back on track, the route takes you on to the Pumpwerk (pump station), where freestyle skating enthusiasts can attempt to fly over ramps and half pipes.
The route now continues into the Wiesental, where the beautiful scenery of the Lange Erlen extends into the agglomeration of Basel like a green finger. Originally, this area between Riehen, Basel and Weil used to be pasture landscape that was characterised by stream courses from the Wiese River. When you continue through this recreational area, you pass the country's border and arrive in Weil am Rhein, the most southern city of Germany.
Afterwards, the last part of the circuit takes you past Tierpark Lange Erlen. This zoo is specialised in domestic animals and open daily (free admission). You can return to Badischer Bahnhof via Im Surinam.
