Magadino Skate
Bellinzona (Castione)–Tenero
This level route leads through the beautiful Magadinoebene (plain). From Castione to Tenero it crosses the largest «Ticino vegetable garden» full of fields, vineyards, farmsteads and agrotouristic businesses.
The starting point is Castione near Bellinzona, the historic town with the three UNESCO castles and the main town of Canton Ticino. The route quickly leads into the Magadinoebene, which with its fields and cultivated areas is a true oasis of tranquillity. The farmsteads and agrotouristic businesses along the way offer ideal opportunities to admire farm animals.
Halfway along the route, you'll find numerous vineyards near the village of Gudo. Don't miss the chance to visit one of the wine cellars and taste a typical drop of Merlot. Much of the route leads alongside the Ticino River, which offers sanctuary to many migratory birds in the Bolle di Magadino nature reserve.
After Tenero, the route leads to the Lago Maggiore lake, which offers plenty of places to swim . The route can be extended following the lakeside promenade to Locarno. The town is famous for its Mediterranean climate and Piazza Grande, where large open-air festivals are held in summer.
