Wildhaus
Wildhaus is a particularly family-friendly resort. The highest municipality in the Toggenburg region lies in a picturesque setting, nestled between the Alpstein (with Säntis) and Churfirsten massifs close to the St. Gall Rheintal.
Wildhaus at 1090 metres altitude is the uppermost municipality in Toggenburg and the highest in Canton St. Gallen. Wildhaus was the birthplace of the famous reformer Huldrych Zwingli; the house where he was born still stands. Together with the nearby places of Unterwasser and Alt St. Johann, Wildhaus comprises the core tourism area in Obertoggenburg. Children’s playing areas, picnic areas with barbecue pits, child-friendly adventure hiking and mountain biking routes, theme hiking trails, the «Wildy» children’s animation programme and a REKA holiday village are some of the attractions of this holiday region, which has the «Families Welcome» quality label.
SUMMER
Several cableways access the surrounding mountains in summer. There are wonderful hikes in the Alpstein and Churfirsten Mountains with picturesque lakes and marsh landscapes.Further attractions in Wildhaus and environs: the geological circuit trail Gamser Rugg, a three-hour theme hike on the subjects of geology, biology and history. Scooter-riding on Alp Gamplüt above Wildhaus (cableway, mountain restaurant, scooter rental). The lido at Schönenbodensee is well worth visiting for a refreshing bathe in the natural mountain lake with sunbathing lawn, barbecue pits, pedalo rental, garden restaurant and children’s play area. Angling, horse-drawn carriage rides, playing areas, crazy golf, tennis etc. complete the wide range of summer activities.The wider Toggenburg region has many attractions awaiting discovery. There is a dense network of hiking trails including the several day Toggenburger Höhenweg high-level route from Wildhaus to Wil and short theme trails including the Klangweg (sound trail), Thurweg, Neckiweg and Sagenweg (myth trail) and Nordic walking routes. The Toggenburg is not just for exploring on foot; the hilly terrain is ideal for mountain biking tours.
WINTER
The Wildhaus - Unterwasser - Alt St. Johann Snow Arena comprises 19 cableways and ski lifts, offering access to 60 kilometres of ski pistes going up to an altitude of 2262 metres. There is a fun park for snowboarders. Off the slopes, a winter landscape with prepared cross-country skiing runs and numerous winter hiking trails can be explored, for instance on snowshoes. At Alp Gamplüt, sledges and gear for fun snow sports can be hired.
