Chézard-Saint-Martin lies in the charming landscape of the Val de Ruz. An extensive grid of hiking and mountain biking trails runs through the Jura hills and the neighbouring village of Cernier is home to the «Evologia» nature and culture park.
This municipality at the foot of the Mont d’Amin in the Val de Ruz comprises three districts: Grand Chézard, Petit Chézard and Saint-Martin. The highest point is the Mont d’Amin at an altitude of 1441 metres.
The watchmaking industry came to the area in the 19th century. Despite this, farming is still of importance to the economy. There is extensive arable farming in the valley basin and dairy farming and livestock raising on the Jura elevations.
Wide expanses of rolling pasture punctuated by tall solitary or grouped spruce trees are typical of the classical, almost mystical appearance of the Jura landscape and are ideal for long walks in unspoilt nature.
