Siebnen, in the Canton Schwyz district of March at the foot of the Stockberg (1217m) and at the entrance to the Wägital valley is not an independent municipality. It is situated on the border of three municipalities; Schübelbach, Galgenen and Wangen. The boundaries run right through the middle of the village and often cause problem with important public concerns such as building or school issues. Nevertheless, Siebenen has been able solve its tripartite political position by means of suitable bodies and forms of organization.

Sieben experienced a major boom at the time of industrialization: in 1834 the hydraulic power of the small Wägitaleraa stream was used to run a weaving mill and later for electricity production (construction of Wägital reservoir in 1924). This also helped contain frequent flooding by the masses of water from Bergtal.

The oldest part of the St. Nikolaus Chapel in Siebnen dates from the 13th century. In 1878 the March district Protestants were able to consecrate their own church in Siebnen. In 1925/26 the Catholic parish church was built and an independent Siebnen parish subsequently formed. At least in this respect the Siebnen inhabitants are not split three ways.

The Wägital valley stretches from Siebnen south to the foot of the Schwalbenchöpf, where you can take the Schwialppass either south-west towards the Pragelpass and into the Muotatal valley, or east to the Klöntalersee lake and Glarus. The only two villages in the valley are Vorderthal (branch off to Sattelegg and the Sihlsee lake) and Innerthal, although the latter had to be relocated in 1924 to allow flooding of the Wägital reservoir.
