Schönbüel OW
The family-friendly holiday region of Lungern-Turren-Schönbüel lies on the Brünig Pass in Canton Obwalden, halfway between Lucerne and Interlaken. Cableway and chairlift access the ski and hiking region of Schönbüel.
Lungern-Turren-Schönbüel is the starting point of several hiking and mountain biking routes. The best known is undoubtedly the hiking trail from Tureen to Schönbüel and to the Brienzer Rothorn peak or vice-versa. Other trails lead to Sörenberg and over the Brünig Pass.Nature-loving hikers will enjoy the Schmetterlingspfad or butterfly trail – a 16 kilometre long network of paths with two main routes leading past the Turren terminus through flower-filled meadows and along the edge of forests down to the valley, to Lungern or Kaiserstuhl. During the butterfly season (June to September) over 100 species can be observed in their natural habitat.

- Schönbüel – 2002 metres altitude with panorama views as far as Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. Starting point of the popular hike to the Brienzer Rothorn peak.
- Schmetterlingspfad (butterfly trail) – circuit path (2.5 hours) or valley hike (3-4 hours) through flower-filled meadows with an abundance of different butterfly species.
- Hiking trail from the Brienzer Rothorn to Schönbüel – a popular classic hiking route (downhill, around 2.5 hours) with magnificent Alpine views.
