Buochs
Buochs (435 m altitude) is full of surprises: a mild climate, a location right on the shores of the Vierwaldstättersee lake, a superb Alpine panorama and a glorious lakeside promenade for leisurely strolls.
Buochs is located on an alluvial plain between its home mountain, Buochserhorn and the imposing Bürgenstock with its scenic views on the west basin of the central Vierwaldstättersee lake. Evening lake cruises are extremely popular. Anyone wanting to do it themselves can rent a canoe or pedalo.
A trip up the Bürgenstock with the nostalgic funicular (from Kehrsiten boat station) is a particularly rewarding experience. At the top, the world's most beautiful high-level promenade awaits you; an over 100-year-old cliff walk above the lake with an impressive Alpine panorama. The round walk can be combined with a trip in the unique Hammetschwand lift, an outdoor elevator over 150 m high, considered one of the boldest tourist attractions from the belle époque era. Also recommended are a guided visit to a Sbrinz-Käserei (cheese dairy) and a walk along the «SkulptUrschweiz» sculpture trail in the renatured local recreation area at Ennetbürgen.
Buochs has developed into a classic ribbon village. The original villagescape is shown to its best on both sides of the village stream and has been well preserved. The St. Martin Parish Church, a late-baroque classicistic building, boasts a particular rarity – one of the few remaining Bossard organs. Building activity has considerably increased since the early 1960s and Buochs now has an urban appearance.
