Sörenberg
The summer and winter holiday resort of Sörenberg in the Lucerne hinterland is situated in the Entlebuch Unesco biosphere. This fantastic moor landscape with its unique plant and animal life has earned the region the distinction of being one of only 400 biosphere reserves world-wide. Ideal for families and nature-lovers.
A holiday in Sörenberg is to experience a close encounter with nature and be part of the magic world of animals and plants. Nowhere in Switzerland is there so much naturally protected moorland in such a small region as here, where the gently rounded surface contours of the moors contrast sharply with the stark relief of the Schrattenfluh ridges.
Sörenberg and the climatic health resort of Flühli, just 8 kilometres away, comprise a holiday destination with a strong family focus. In addition to several small hotels, Sörenberg offers a particularly wide range of holiday apartments and accommodation for group travellers. There is even a restored Art Nouveau hotel in nearby Flühli.
Summer
The people of the alpine valleys have lived their lives in accordance with Nature’s laws for hundreds of years, so guided walks with nature as their theme are an important attraction in the Entlebuch biosphere. They include karst walks in the Schrattenfluh; cave visits; observing wildlife on the Brienzer Rothorn; excursions to watch golden eagles; discovering medicinal herbs, poisonous plants and local legends.
An aerial cableway runs from Sörenberg up to the Brienzer Rothorn, a popular starting point for many beautiful mountain walks. In summer a steam railway carries on still further from Brienz. Beneath the peak of the Rothorn lies the Eisee. The deep blue waters of this mountain lake are a paradise for anglers, nature-lovers and hikers.
Nature and wellness combine in the idyllic Kneipp Cure Centre of Schwandalpweiher near Fühli. The high-wire park guarantees an adrenalin kick. There is also an interesting network of cycle paths and facilities for golfers to indulge their hobby. There are courses in playing the alpine horn and making cheese; washing gold and special Native American fun days etc.
Winter
Sörenberg is the biggest winter sports’ region in the Canton of Lucerne, boasting 18 chair- and ski-lifts as well as mountain railways. Enjoy skiing and snowboarding at altitudes of up to 2350m on the Brienzer Rothorn, the highest mountain in the canton. This family-friendly winter sports’ area also offers a snow sports school, two toboggan runs and guided snow-shoe tours. Experienced skiers enthuse about the Schrattenfluh ski-tour region.
