Brigels - Waltensburg - Andiast

The three mountain villages of Brigels, Waltensburg and Andiast are located on a sun terrace of the Grisons Anterior Rhine Valley (Vorderrheintal. In summer the destination attracts with great hiking and biking trails and a golf course. In winter it turns into a snow paradise for the whole family.
From Brigels, the heart of the holiday region, the chairlift leads to the ski- and hiking area. In winter time there is also the possibility to take the chairlift from Waltensburg to go up to the mountains to the ski area Brigels-Waltensburg-Andiast. From Andiast the link services are accessible easily and quickly. With quite a few things being within comfortable reach on foot even the car can enjoy a break on the sunny mountain terrace. And the tradition-rich Hotel Ucliva in Waltensburg makes a conscious effort to treat visitors to organic and local produce.

Summer

In the region 150 kilometres of marked hiking trails lie at the feet of hikers. There are also possibilities for longer tours, such as, for example, the Three-Pass-Tour over the Kisten, Panixer and Richteli Passes to the Canton of Glarus or the Senda Sursilvana, the 'star' of high-altitude hiking trails, which extends for 100 kilometres from the Oberalp Pass to Chur. There are a great many things to explore including the "Uaul Scatlè", Europe's highest primeval pine forest, castle ruins, historic churches and chapels and the spraying waterfalls by the Panixer Reservoir.

Mountain biking, catered for with 140 kilometres of marked routes, is a popular alternative and the 9-hole golf course in Brigels adds another attractive feature for golfers to the region.

Winter

50 kilometres of wide, groomed pistes, a snow park and a race course where you can time yourself provide variety in a relaxed atmosphere. Toboggan and winter walking trails, snowtubing and 7.5 kilometres of cross-country skiing tracks complete the activities on offer. The family-friendly ski pass prices are a typical feature of the region. In bad weather a visit to the Vals thermal spa, which is known for its architecture, seems like the obvious thing to do. The proximity to the ski resort Flims-Laax-Falera also offers the possibility to explore a large ski resort at a short distance.

Highlights

  • Scatlè, primeval Alpine forest - Europe's highest-altitude primeval spruce forest; guided tours possible.
  • Val Frisal - high valley at 1900 m altitude with meandering water courses and a fen with rare fauna and flora.
  • Senda Sursilvana - a hike of several days from Oberalpass to Chur, continuously signposted.
  • Bathing lake in Brigels - near-natural bathing lake created close to the village.
  • Waterfalls at the Lag da Pigniu.
