Fromagerie des Fruitières de Nyon

Fromagerie des Fruitières de Nyon

«Fruitières de Nyon» is located in the Alpine pasture grounds of the Jura Regional Nature Park. Watch traditional cheese-making after enjoying a panoramic view of the region around Lake Geneva.
Owned by the town of Nyon, «Fruitières de Nyon» is an Alpine chalet located at an altitude of 1,333 m, above La Givrine.
In summer, you can buy Alpine cheese directly from the dairy farmer or watch how cheese is made the traditional way, provided you are an early bird, because cheese-making starts at 7 a.m. Products on sale are Gruyère, butter, soft white cheese, and Raclette cheese. The Alpine chalet is also a vantage point that offers a breathtaking view of the Alps and Lake Geneva.

Anecdote: when fridges did not yet exist, the only means of preserving the milk and its precious nutritional value consisted in transforming it into cheese. An Alpine summer pasture of the surface of a football field feeds one cow at most. Its 2,000 litres of milk can be made into 200 kg of cheese.
