By organizing and hosting exhibitions and temporary presentations, the museum also aims to take a contemporary look at society, art and history. As a setting where visitors can exchange ideas and take time to reflect, the Museum is an active participant in the town's contemporary social and cultural life. Religious art is a key theme here: ecclesiastical treasures, paintings and sculptures, as well as more popular devotional items. Many of the objects come from the monasteries of Bellelay, Lucelle, Saint-Ursanne and in particular Moutier-Grandval, the abbey which was the birthplace of the Jura as a territorial entity. The crosier of St. Germain is a special attraction.
