Tiersteinberg Bike
Frick–Frick
Tiersteinberg Bike is a gem in the diverse «Jurapark Aargau» and a pleasure at any time of the year – but particularly in spring, when the cherry trees in the Fricktal region are in blossom. The wooded Tiersteinberg reveals amazing views over the Aargau Jura Plateau.
The Tiersteinberg is Frick's «own» mountain. Starting out from Frick, the route first leads over hilly ground to a plateau between Schupfart and Frick. After passing the sports airfield, you reach Wegenstetten. Then the real climb begins through the woods on the Tiersteinberg. On the way, fantastic vantage points with fire pits on the Wegenstetter and the Schupfarter Fluh (elevated mound) beckon. From the Tiersteinberg, there are sweeping views of beautiful plateaus and the hills of the Benken Valley.
The route is also lined with reminders of bygone days such as the ruins of Alt-Tierstein Castle (accessible on foot), which is now a popular destination for outings, and a Celtic burial mound. Buschberg Chapel, on the other hand, is known as a place of natural power. According to legend, a master miller miraculously survived a serious accident here in 1668. This became known throughout the country. Growing numbers of people made the pilgrimage to this spot, leading to the construction of a small chapel here in 1868. It can be reached via a Way of the Cross. The Lourdes Grotto is located at the start. All these attractions testify to earlier settlement of the region.
After a rest at Buschberg or the Tiersteinberg ruins, bikers are rewarded with an enjoyable ride downhill towards Gipf-Oberfrick through the orchard countryside. The stretches through woodland make this a very pleasant tour in hot weather. You can feast your eyes on the blossoms in spring – and later in the year, you can feast on the fruit itself. Anyone who wants to can find one of the designated «pick-me trees» to have a snack or a shady «tree chapel» with a bench. Farm shops with regional specialities such as dried fruit provide an energy boost.
