Giovanni's Paradies

The tour is named after the painter Giovanni Segantini, who spent several years living and working in Savognin. Some of his most famous work was done here. The bike route passes through this very area and is ideally suited for e-bikes.
The start of the tour «Giovanni's Paradise» is the parking area for the cable car in Savognin. On the way through the village the mountain bikers already follow the footsteps of Giovanni Segantini. The route passes the Sala Segantini art gallery as well as the home of the world-famous painter on the main road. Segantini and his family lived in Savognin from 1886 to 1894. This is where some of his most famous paintings were created, including «The two mothers» and «Ploughing».

Next starts the climb to Rudnal above Savognin. The trail follows a forest road reaching the highest point at Nassegl at the foot of Piz Mitgel. The place offers a view over the entire ski resort of Savognin. For an optional detour: right after Nassegl, take the road to Plang Begls, where refreshments are available.

From Tussagn the pace quickens on the downhill over single trails and forest roads. Despite having so much fun on the trail, make sure you take the time to enjoy the view across the Surses region. It was Giovanni Segantini’s inspiration for his paintings. He was motivated by the fantastic light in the Surses, by the mountains and rural life. In Savognin the “master of Alpine landscapes” first experimented with the divisionism painting technique, which made the mountains shine in a new light and fresh colours. The tour to the places where Segantini lived and worked is ideally suited for e-bikes. If you have no appetite for trails simply take the forest road back to Savognin.
