Pian Cales
San Bernardino–San Bernardino
A pleasant ride with a beautiful view on the village of San Bernardino and surroundings, rich with the intense aroma of mountain flowers.
After having finished shopping for your daily needs in the well-stocked village store, you hop into the saddle of your mountain bike and cross the vilage of San Bernardino and ascend the slopes of Pian Cales, accompanied by the soothing sounds of the cowbells in the pastures. After a steep initial climb, the rider can regenerate himself by raising his head to admire one of the manyfold peaks, or by taking a brief rest at one of the numerous mineral water sources of San Bernardino.
The Alp of Pian Dos is the ideal spot to take a rest and sample some of the unique flavors of the region before beginning the descent, arriving at the little lake, a veritable oasis of peace, whose calming waters give you the necessary strength to tackle the final climb. From there it's only a few minutes until you arrive at one of the most important high moors of the Southern Alps. At this idyllic place, one can observe undisturbed the indigenous animals in their habitat. On a clear day you can make out the ruins of the Castle of Mesocco, a short way down the valley. Flanking the shores of Lago d'Isola, the pathway now returns to the village, where you can sit down for a well-earned rest at one of the numerous restaurants.
A tour rich in history, culture and nature - where emotions are always intense, whether one follows single trails accompanied by cows in the pastures or one descends one of the many dirt tracks deep in the forest.
