Hannig Loop

The Hannig Loop is a challenging, high-mountain tour at the foot of the Wannehorn. Bikers who choose this trail should be in excellent condition. In turn, it offers fantastic views of the Visp and Matter Valleys and of the Augstbord region.
Grächen is situated on a sun-drenched terrace in the Matter Valley, while Hannigalp is perched on the mountainside between the Matter and Saas Valleys. Taking the gondola from Grächen Dorf is the best way to get there. Looking at the many surrounding peaks, including the Matterhorn, before taking off from Hannigalp is an additional bonus.

The tour first climbs up via Chleini Furgge, a small saddle in the back of the Wannehorn, to Küchenwang. Part of the ascent is quite steep. Those without an e-bike will probably have to dismount in some places. The views of the Visp Valley along the way are spectacular. From Küchenwang, the highest point of the tour, it is advisable to tackle the 50 altitude meters up to the summit on foot. The panoramic views of the mountains of the southern Valais and the Bernese Alps from the Wannehorn are extraordinary. Bishorn, Brunegghorn, the amazing Weisshorn and a variety of other peaks are visible from here.

A somewhat wider trail leaves Küchenwang and continues gently downhill to “Heidnische Tossu”, the second viewpoint. On the other side of the valley the views range from the striking peaks of the Augstbord region all the way to the Matter Valley. The loop trail then follows a downhill via Stafel through Stafelwald forest and back to Hannigalp.
