The tour starts in Wildhaus, the most elevated district in the canton of St Gallen. Right at the start, the route passes one of Switzerland’s most beautiful swimming baths: the Schönenbodensee is idyllically bedded in the landscape and invites passers-by to bathe and linger.
The route leads down into the Rhine valley to Grabs. Even during the rapid descent into the valley, you cannot help but notice the view. The only time the route is exerting is on the way up to Gamperfin, above Wildhaus.
The highest point of the route is reached at Oelberg. You can treat yourself to a break in an alpine tavern shortly after before travelling through Oberdorf and back to Wildhaus. Shortly before arriving, the route passes the birthplace of the reformer, Huldrych Zwingli.
