Schächental Bike
Altdorf (Bahnhof)–Altdorf (Bahnhof)
The tour along the high alpine hiking track Schächental is a classic amongst bike tours. The fantastic panoramic ride has optimum infrastructure and is peppered with ascents and descents, all situated in lovely countryside.
First you bike past Bürglen, the home town of William Tell; next on the steadily climbing Klausenpass road through the long drawn-out Schächental. The Klausen road is impressive, being carved into the rocks along a so called «mountain line». Way down - more than 400 m - you see the hamlet Aesch with the spraying waterfall that is more than 90 metres high.
The impressive mountain roads will fire your imagination as you bike along the nature trail on the high alpine track Schächental. Don't forget to perhaps buy a delicious piece of an Uri alpine cheese at one of the many alps on the way. You will be excited by the then following imposing rollercoaster ride with splendid views down the Schächen and Reuss valleys. The many, but short, ascents will challenge your heart frequency on this tour part - and the mountain restaurants along the route offer many options and rests.
Past the idyllic Steinselez basin there is a last ascent to the small lake Flesch, before you start the exciting downhill ride down to Eggberge and the forest of Bannwald to Altdorf.
