Brunnital Bike
Altdorf (Bahnhof)–Altdorf (Bahnhof)
The valley Schächental is THE biking paradise in the Uri holiday region of Uri. This tour leads you from historic Altdorf through William Tell's home town to the valley of Brunnital, which lies between steep cliff faces at Unterschächen.
Along the roaring river Schächen you discover the typical scattered settlements of the Schächen valley. Consider a first coffee break at Unterschächen, in one of the cosy restaurants. Biking into the Brunni valley you have a fantastic view of Gross Ruchen, the largest chalk face in Europe. Follow the nature trail through picturesque conifer woodland past Rüti to the Alp Brunni. The track then steadily climbs past the charming Brunni chapel to Nider Lammerbach and then to the alp Trogen. There at the small alpine restaurant you can taste delicious alpine cheese and true Schächental coffee, as well as enjoy idyllic views.
The way back is on the old road along the river Hinterschächen. You will bike through diversified flower meadows and colourful forests to the hamlet Lauwi, which has lovingly carved animals all around the cabin. Then onwards you go past the Bad chapel, which is surrounded by the towering rock faces of the Brunni valley, back to Unterschächen. The route then leads you back to Altdorf on the Klausen road.
