Furka Bike
Andermatt–Realp–Tiefenbach–Rotenberg–Andermatt
The Furka Mountain Path, commonly known as the Urschner Höhenweg, is a panorama trail for athletic mountain bikers. It offers a natural spectacle with breath-taking views in the direction of the Furka, Gotthard and Oberalp passes.
The tour starts at the train station of Andermatt and leads through the flat valley floor along the Furkareuss River. After passing Hospental you get to Zumdorf, officially the “smallest village in Switzerland”. A chapel, a restaurant and two holiday homes are perching between the steep cliffs – that’s it. The relatively flat route through the bottom of the valley continues in the direction of Realp at the foot of the Furka Pass.
And now the ascent begins: the main road climbs up through several switchbacks, all the way to Tiefenbach. Take a right turn about 200 m after the local hotel. A gravel road leads to Tätsch, the highest point of the tour. Once there, you will be treated to magnificent views. A short downhill follows on the old factory road of the small power station above Realp.
From here, the well-developed trail takes you to the hollow of the Lochberg. Then, with constant ups and downs, you follow the Urschner Höhenweg. After passing the small Blauseeli Lake you reach Lutersee with an awesome panoramic view in the direction of the Furka, Gotthard and Oberalp passes. Another six km or so and the trail ends at Rossmettlen near an old military camp. Another single trail continues downhill and then follows the path around the golf course, all the way down to the Reuss River. Across the Reuss dam and via Giessen, the tour ends back at the Andermatt train station.
