Arni Bike
Amsteg–Amsteg
Arni - one of the most popular local recreation areas in the Uri holiday destination with its idyllic deep blue lake - offers you an impressive tour with diverse dry meadows and rare orchids beneath Geissberg.
It is a short descent on the historic Gotthard mule path which leads you from Vorder Ried and Hinter Ried to Meitschligen, the path being lined with wonderful dry masonry walls and stone cairns. The route has a gradual ascent to Gurtnellen, where there are two restaurants.
It becomes steeper now and you bike through fascinating countryside with diverse dry meadows and rare types of orchids all the way to Heissigegg. There you are rewarded with great views over the higher Reuss valley. The journey continues on a nice forest track to the picturesque lake of Arni, which offers picnic spots, BBQ areas and restaurants for possible lunch stops. To circle the lake, however, you have to get off your bike and tackle the track by foot.
The descent is a bit steep and rough on an alpine track and challenges your brakes and suspension but warms every passionate biker's heart. Being a bit shaken you reach the hamlet Intschi and from there roll along the sealed cantonal road back to Amsteg.
