Isla Sut
Ilanz–Ilanz
Short tour starting in Ilanz with few climbs. Through nature reserves and meadows alongside the Rhine – the perfect tour for families.
From the railyway station in Ilanz, the first town on the emerging Rhine, the cycle route runs along a dirt track to Castrisch. The historic village centre with its typical fountain is part of Switzerland's protected cultural heritage and well worth a break. The route continues underneath the trainline and on through fields and meadows down to the Isla Sut (nature reserve) at the entrance to the Rhine Gorge.
There is a barbecue facility right by the river. Barbecued sausages taste particularly good during a break on the peninsular by the emerging Rhine. Refreshed, you then continue briefly along the Rhine. After crossing a small stream, dirt tracks take you through an alluvial forest on the right and under the train line back to Castrisch and on to Ilanz.
