Crans-Montana Bike Marathon
Crans-Montana–Crans-Montana
The many mountain bike routes of Crans-Montana have been combined to circle the region in the form of the «Bike Marathon». Physically and technically demanding, the tour offers a vast variety of surprises: forests, bisses (irrigation channels), pastures, pinewoods, vineyards, villages, lakes and even museums line the way.
The obvious highlights on the first section of the Crans-Montana Bike Marathon are the many small, peaceful lakes in and around the town of Crans-Montana, before you reach the mountain road to Ploumachit, riding up and down small forest roads and some single trail sections. This mountain road now climbs up to Cabane de la Tièche. This is a good time to take a break and enjoy the view of the surrounding peaks: Weisshorn, Zinalrothorn, Matterhorn and Dent Blanche form the breathtaking and glacier-covered horizon on the opposite side of the Rhone Valley.
Now we’re ready for the downhill. On a fantastic, smoothly flowing single trail, followed by a gravel road, you shoot down via Cordona and Venthône to Veyras. Scenic variety is what you will find here. The dense fir forest turns into an open area with pine trees and the dry climate is reminiscent of the Mediterranean region. Finally you coast through the vineyards of Sierre before heading back to Crans-Montana. On a mix of small roads, along irrigation channels, gravel roads and single trails you return to the starting point at lake Etang de la Moubra where the tour ends in style at the beach.
