Val d'Anniviers Weisshorn Bike
St-Luc–St-Luc
Rustic Hotel Weisshorn sits on an outcrop high above Val d’Anniviers. The mountain inn marks the end of the tour with a backdrop of the most impressive peaks in the Valais.
The panoramic view from the Hotel Weisshorn is simply breathtaking. From the terrace of the over 130-year-old mountain inn, it stretches from the Weisshorn to the Zinalrothorn, the Dent Blanche and the Matterhorn, all the way to Mont Blanc. By the way, the homemade blueberry cake in the hotel is almost as spectacular – and not to be missed when you visit the Hotel Weisshorn.
The best way for mountain bikers to reach the legendary inn starts from St-Luc. On a gravel road you climb up to Tignousa, the mountain station of the funicular which also carries mountain bikes. Close by the funicular station is the François-Xavier Bagnoud Observatory. Continue along the Planet Path to Alp Chiesso and then climb an increasingly steep road up to the Hotel Weisshorn.
For the descent back to St-Luc, follow the same way you came until you reach Chiesso, then take a left to a wonderful single trail. Later, all you have to do is coast along smooth forest roads back to where you started.
The tour is more difficult and exciting in the other direction. For the descent from Tignousa to St-Luc you take one of the routes of the St-Luc bike park, specially built for mountain bikers. In addition to a challenging downhill route, you also have the choice of an easy and a moderate single trail option.
