Häxutrail Bike
Belalp–Erich-Rischinerwald–Blatten
Through forests, across meadows, past hamlets and over hill and dale on the Häxutrail from Belalp to Blatten. The crowning glory: the flow trail which was specially created for mountain bikes.
The tour starts at Belalp. In winter, an annual local ski race takes place here, for which the participants are dressed up as witches. In summer, you can ride your mountain bike down the slopes on the Häxutrail, the witches’ trail. From the top station, you first cycle along a forest road to the cable car, then on to the Kelchbach stream and across alpine meadows to Bäll. Afterwards, the actual mountain bike trail dives over the Bättulhirmi into the woods above Blatten.
The first forest section ends with lots of bends at a clearing above Tätschen. There are several small jumps in the straight sections which can be bypassed if you wish. After the middle station of the cable car at Unter Erich, where the road is crossed, the trail continues past old hamlets and green meadows to the forest path. The first 200 metres in the forest are shared by hikers and bikers, so you should ride carefully. Then the paths split up, and the trail fun begins: a flow trail of approximately one kilometre which was created especially for mountain bikes, winds its way through the open forest.
After crossing the Rischinenstrasse, the trail continues on a cleared track to the road above the valley station of the cable car. Typical wooden houses covered with stone slabs and blackened by the sun as well as the characteristic Valais granaries mark the townscape of Blatten. There are several restaurants here or at Belalp where you can fortify yourself for the descent.
