Panorama Bike
Stage 1, Rorschach–Trogen
Lake Constance dominates the first stage of the Panorama Bike route: its imposing size becomes clear on the ascent to the Rorschacherberg. Then the view changes and the expanse of the Lake Constance region contrasts with the narrow valleys and pretty villages. The route ends amid the picture-perfect Appenzell region.
The higher you climb up Rorschacherberg, the more impressive Lake Constance looks. We still remember the sound of its waves lapping at the shore and now we see it from the top as it appears in all its glory.
While we still look down at the lake in awe, another eye-catcher looms in front of us: the Säntis mountain. The rocky giant overlooks the lovely Appenzell region which we are crisscrossing on rural and gravel roads – past farmhouses lovingly decorated with flowers, grazing cows, accompanied by gurgling creeks and birdsong. All seems right with the world here and our first destination, the village of Trogen, is just as idyllic.
The first stage typifies the entire Panorama Bike route from Rorschach to Montreux. It is not the abundance of spectacular single trails and downhill runs that makes it so attractive. It is the beauty of the countryside, pure and simple.
