Panorama Bike

The route becomes more Alpine and at the foot of the Säntis leads along alp and gravel paths to the first two «real» passes on the Panorama Bike – Schwägalp Pass and Risipass – and then down into Toggenburg.
Before the masses of tourists arrive in Appenzell it is best to leave the picturesque village, heading in the direction of Weissbad and climbing along the foot of the Säntis via Potersalp to Schwägalp. On the way up it is rare to come across anybody, but Schwägalp is generally a hive of activity. No wonder: this popular recreation area is where the cable car departs for the summit of the Säntis.

But bikers soon leave the bustle behind: as you head up to Lütisalp, you will mostly be by yourself again. And most of the time, the scenery on the Risi Pass is all yours too, although nowhere else are the huge cliffs of the Säntis closer than here. Take another look at the peak before leaving, zooming down to Stein and today’s destination.
