Le Prese
The hamlet of Le Prese lies on a plain north of the Lago di Poschiavo, halfway between the Alpine glacier world of the Bernina region and the Mediterranean-like vineyard terraces of the Veltlin.
Val Poschiavo, the southern, Italian-speaking Graubunden valley that stretches from the Berninapass into the Veltlin, is best explored by Rhätischen Bahn (Rhaetian Railway). The section over the Albula and Bernina Passes was added to the list of UNESCO World Heritages in 2008 and affords spectacular views of the authentic natural and cultured landscape of the Puschlav.
There are many inviting places to visit along the route, such as Le Prese. The settlement nestles between steep mountain slopes, right on the shores of Lago di Poschiavo. The lake, dammed by a prehistoric rockfall, attracts nature lovers and sports fans in equal measure, whether for a refreshing swim in summer, for fishing, surfing or simply to stroll along the shore.
Le Prese is itself an ideal starting point for hiking and cycling tours, and the wealth of options is also considerably expanded by the regular rail and bus connections to all the surrounding attractions: to the main town of Poschiavo with its paved alleyways and stately patricians’ houses roofed with stone, to the Val da Camp nature reserve with its lush Alpine flora and enchanting mountain lakes of Lagh da Saoseo and Lagh da Val Viola, to the glacier mills of Cavaglia and finally, a short train ride southwards to the Smuggler & Wine Museum and unique curved viaduct of the Rhätischen Bahn (Rhaetian Railway) in Brusio.
